New Grants Support 2SLGBTQIA+ Initiatives and Community Programs

Dated: January 26, 2026

The Province of Nova Scotia has launched the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community Impact Grant program to support community-based organizations serving 2SLGBTQIA+ residents. The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity, stability, and long-term impact of these organizations, helping them better serve underrepresented and underserved communities, including those in rural areas.

This funding program is part of the Province’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Action Plan, released on January 8, and reflects a shift from planning to actionable support for equity and inclusion. Attorney General and Justice Minister Scott Armstrong emphasized that the grants are intended to help build a province where 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals feel safe, respected, and fully able to participate in community life.

Eligible organizations can apply for grants of up to $25,000 per project, with a total of $150,000 available. The funding is designed to cover core and administrative costs, enabling organizations to grow sustainably and increase their community impact.

To qualify, applicants must be registered not-for-profits or charities based in Nova Scotia, have a primary focus on serving 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, demonstrate 2SLGBTQIA+ leadership within their board or staff, and show how the funding will enhance their capacity and impact. Organizations are also expected to demonstrate collaborative or intersectional approaches to equity and inclusion.

Applications will be reviewed by the Office of Equity and Anti-Racism, with oversight from a cross-government committee, ensuring that grants are awarded to organizations that can maximize their impact for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities across the province.
