Residents affected by floods in Flinders, Richmond, and Winton can now access Personal Hardship Assistance to support their recovery from the impacts of the North Queensland Monsoon Trough. This assistance provides payments of $180 per individual and up to $900 for families of five or more to cover emergency essentials such as food, clothing, and medicine.
Additional support of up to $150 per person and up to $750 per family is available for residents who have experienced the loss of one or more essential services for more than five days. Income-tested hardship measures are also available for uninsured residents, including Essential Household Contents Grants of up to $1,765 for individuals and $5,300 for couples or families to replace destroyed items like bed linen and whitegoods.
Structural Assistance Grants of up to $80,000 help repair or replace disaster-damaged dwellings to restore safe and habitable conditions. The Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme offers up to $5,000 per household to reconnect damaged services, including electricity, gas, water, or sewerage.
All financial support is funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). Residents can find information on eligibility and applications at the Queensland Disaster website or by calling the Community Recovery Hotline. Queensland Reconstruction Authority officers continue to work closely with local councils and the Commonwealth to support ongoing community recovery efforts and ensure all eligible requests for assistance are addressed.
