Foresight Group has invested £2.5 million into Bloemteknik Limited, a Cardiff-based provider of precision LED lighting systems for commercial greenhouses and vertical farms. The investment was made through the British Business Bank’s Investment Fund for Wales and Foresight’s Growth VCTs. The Fund was launched in November 2023 to boost early-stage finance for small and medium-sized businesses across Wales, with Foresight leading equity investments up to £5 million.
Founded in 2023 by two former senior leaders from GE, Bloemteknik has quickly gained traction, deploying over 25,000 lighting fixtures across multiple international markets. Its modular lighting systems are tailored to specific crop types and growing environments, helping growers increase efficiency, boost productivity, and achieve consistent results.
The investment will enable Bloem to scale GreenFingers, its autonomous, self-optimising lighting platform. GreenFingers uses advanced algorithms to deliver real-time control of supplementary lighting, maintaining a consistent daily light integral and a balanced growing environment. With Foresight’s backing, Bloem has accelerated the platform’s development, testing, and commercial deployment, providing growers with a technology that enhances lighting performance in controlled environment agriculture.
Foresight’s funding will also support Bloem’s operational growth, strengthen delivery capacity, expand into international markets, and create local jobs in Wales across operations, finance, and sales. The partnership brings strategic guidance, sector expertise, and access to Foresight’s global network, helping Bloem build a resilient, high-growth business rooted in South Wales.
In addition, Bloem has secured over £700,000 in Innovate UK grant funding through the Investor Partnership Programme to further advance the GreenFingers platform. CEO James Fleet emphasized that Foresight’s investment was critical to bringing GreenFingers to market quickly, enabling an autonomous, self-optimising lighting ecosystem that optimises intensity and spectrum in real time.
Bethan Bannister, Senior Investment Manager at the British Business Bank, highlighted that the Investment Fund for Wales is accelerating the market entry of innovative businesses like Bloem. Ashley Rogers, Investment Manager at Foresight, noted that Bloem has demonstrated strong early traction with a differentiated product and experienced team, and that Foresight is pleased to support their growth and international expansion.
This investment marks Foresight’s seventh from the Investment Fund for Wales, reinforcing its commitment to supporting innovative Welsh businesses with high-growth potential.
