The Government of Canada, through the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Public Safety, has announced a Call for Applications for the Grants and Contributions Program to Voluntary Organizations. This initiative provides funding to non-profit organizations that deliver programs supporting the reintegration of individuals involved in the criminal justice system back into society.
The funding opportunity includes two streams. The first stream allocates $12.6 million in grants for fiscal year 2026–2027 to Black-led or Black-serving organizations, aiming to provide community reintegration and corrections programming as part of Canada’s Black Justice Strategy. The second stream offers $1.8 million in ongoing support for Canadian organizations delivering reintegration programming to the broader population, funded under existing departmental resources.
Eligible voluntary organizations are independent, not-for-profit groups that operate outside of government to support individuals and communities. For this Call, eligible organizations include those providing programming related to corrections, conditional release, and community reintegration, with expenses such as salaries, rent, and training covered. Organizations interested in applying can contact gpnvo-psobn@ps-sp.gc.ca
for updates and information on upcoming sessions, with the application deadline set for Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:59 AM Pacific Time (PDT).
Minister Anandasangaree highlighted the importance of voluntary organizations in fostering safer, inclusive communities and addressing systemic barriers, particularly for Black communities disproportionately affected by the criminal justice system. This funding reinforces efforts under the Black Justice Strategy, which provides a 10-year framework to reduce the overrepresentation of Black individuals in Canada’s justice system and support transformative change.
