The Empowering Yemeni Women Catalysing Renewable Energy project, funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Yemen with local partner For All Foundation, has successfully addressed the critical energy needs of thousands of Yemeni families. With a total investment of USD 2.5 million, the year-long initiative provided solar lanterns and ovens to 21,375 vulnerable individuals. The project not only promoted access to renewable energy but also strengthened sustainable livelihoods and enhanced the role of women in Yemen’s growing renewable energy sector.
Launched in November 2024 and concluding in October 2025, the project trained 375 women in solar technology and business management. Participants received grants and toolkits to produce solar lanterns and ovens in Al-Qaten District, Hadramout Governorate, and Al-Qabaitah District, Lahj Governorate. Additionally, a specialized “training of trainers” program prepared 31 solar trainers to build local capacity and ensure quality and continuity in future training initiatives.
UNDP Yemen Resident Representative, Zena Ali Ahmad, emphasized that empowering women with renewable energy skills not only offers sustainable energy solutions but also paves the way for long-term economic growth. She highlighted that the partnership with KSrelief has played a pivotal role in generating meaningful and lasting change within these communities.
This initiative marks another milestone in the collaboration between UNDP and KSrelief, reinforcing their shared commitment to empowering vulnerable populations, building community resilience, and promoting an integrated humanitarian and development approach across Yemen.
