The Government of Canada has announced over $26.4 million in funding through Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) to boost innovation and productivity in Quebec’s residential construction supply chain. The investment aims to accelerate the construction of affordable housing and support the development of sustainable, modern homebuilding solutions across the province. The announcement was made in Terrebonne by the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for CED, alongside Parliamentary Secretary Caroline Desrochers and Member of Parliament Tatiana Auguste, highlighting two local beneficiaries—Le Groupe LGR and Rinox.
A total of $9.85 million is being provided for 10 projects under the Regional Homebuilding Innovation Initiative (RHII), which promotes technological and sustainable advances in homebuilding. An additional $600,000 in funding for Fab Structures brings the initiative’s total to $10.45 million. The recipients include several Quebec-based institutions and companies such as Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Les Industries Bonneville, and Sokio Industry, all focused on developing innovative modular and ecological housing solutions.
Another $15.95 million is being allocated to 40 projects through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program and the Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP). These initiatives aim to support the commercialization of innovative manufacturing products and to strengthen regional businesses within the homebuilding sector. Together, the 51 funded projects will enhance production capacity, introduce new construction technologies, and reinforce local supply chains critical to meeting Canada’s growing housing needs.
Minister Joly emphasized that the government is taking decisive action to tackle the housing crisis by supporting innovation and manufacturing in the construction industry. The funding, she noted, will help build homes more quickly and sustainably while driving economic growth across Quebec. Parliamentary Secretary Desrochers and MP Auguste echoed this sentiment, underlining the government’s commitment to fostering partnerships, supporting innovation, and ensuring that investments in housing contribute to creating a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future for all regions.
Launched in 2024, the Regional Homebuilding Innovation Initiative is part of Canada’s Housing Plan, which supports organizations that pioneer new housing technologies and methods. The REGI and QEDP programs further encourage entrepreneurship, innovation, and regional economic diversification. Through CED’s 12 regional business offices, the federal government continues to play a vital role in helping Quebec businesses adapt to tomorrow’s economy while ensuring that innovation drives both housing solutions and long-term economic development.
