The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh attended a reception at the British Embassy in Tokyo to mark the launch of new UK-Japan partnership programmes under the MUSUBI Initiative, a unique public-private collaboration designed to foster the next generation of leaders in both countries. The event highlighted the deepening friendship and shared values between the United Kingdom and Japan.
Three new programmes were unveiled to empower youth, promote sustainable development, and enhance cultural exchange. Odgers and Chubu Electric will back a mentorship scheme for emerging female leaders, while the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) will provide a career support network for women in finance. Deloitte will assist MUSUBI’s development into an independent foundation. Senior officials, business leaders, educators, and cultural figures from both nations attended the event at the Ambassador’s ballroom, celebrating these initiatives and their potential to create lasting impact.
Launched at Expo 2025, the MUSUBI Initiative—rooted in the Japanese concept of “musubi,” meaning connection or tying together—brings together government, industry, academia, and civil society. It aims to build meaningful, long-term connections and equip young leaders in the UK and Japan to drive positive change in society.
