To celebrate International Day of the Girl on 11 October, the British Embassy in Tunisia is launching the “Ambassador for a Day” competition under the theme “The girl I am, the change I lead.” This national essay and video competition targets girls aged 15 to 18 and offers winners the opportunity to shadow the British Ambassador for one day. Participants will gain first-hand experience of leadership, advocacy, diplomacy, and confidence-building, making it a unique chance to develop skills that support positive change.
The competition invites girls living in Tunisia to submit a short essay of up to 250 words or a video of no more than two minutes in English. Participants are asked to reflect on how they would support girls leading change during crises or highlight a girl or woman who has successfully driven positive change in such situations. Submissions must be original, not AI-generated, and not used for similar initiatives. Only one entry per participant is allowed, and entries failing to meet the criteria will be disqualified.
The competition is open to girls whose main country of residence is Tunisia, who are not attending university, and who are aged 15 to 18 as of 1 September 2025. There is no entry fee, and the British Embassy or its partners will cover reasonable travel expenses for winners and one chaperone if needed. Winners must be available to travel to Tunis and, if under 18, must be accompanied by a chaperone over 21 years old.
The closing date for submissions is 11:59 pm on Friday, 26 September 2025. Winners may be photographed or filmed during public and online engagements as part of the Ambassador for a Day campaign. The Embassy reserves the right to make changes to the event schedule and will process entrants’ personal data solely for judging purposes in line with data protection regulations. By entering, participants and their legal representatives agree to the competition’s terms and conditions.
