3,500 Students Receive Back-to-School Backpacks as United Way Exceeds Distribution Target

Dated: August 29, 2025

United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Backpacks for Success project recently provided thousands of local students with new backpacks filled with essential school supplies, with the combined value exceeding $106,000. Most distributions took place throughout August during community events hosted by partner organizations, ensuring children felt prepared and supported as they returned to school.

Moira Weir, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati, highlighted the importance of collaboration among partners, donors, and volunteers to remove barriers to learning and help children reach their full potential, especially amid rising costs. The project aimed to empower students with the confidence and tools needed for a successful school year.

Backpacks and supplies were distributed across multiple communities, including Avondale, Bond Hill, Cheviot, College Hill, East Westwood, Kennedy Heights, Lincoln Heights, North Fairmount, Northside, Over-the-Rhine, Price Hill, The Villages at Roll Hill, Westwood, Felicity and Franklin Townships in Clermont County, and Covington. In addition to backpacks, distribution events provided students and families with critical services such as health screenings, personal care items, and school shoes and uniforms.

The initiative was supported by organizing partners such as Corinthian Baptist Church (in collaboration with other local churches), Guiding Light Mentoring, La Viña Church, and Legacy Pointe Church. Generous contributions also came from numerous businesses and organizations, including American Postal Workers United, Ballard Design, Duke Energy, GE Aerospace, Fifth Third Bank, Kroger, Rhinegeist, and many more, reflecting a strong community-wide commitment to ensuring students start the school year equipped and confident.
