A new Women’s Center is being developed in Aného, Togo, to strengthen women’s economic opportunities through training, entrepreneurship support, and access to resources. The facility is expected to help women build sustainable livelihoods and increase their participation in the local economy.
Construction of the center began in Glidji through a 70 million CFA franc financing partnership between the United Nations Population Fund in Togo and the Lacs 1 municipality. The project is designed to provide a dedicated space where women and young girls can gain skills, develop businesses, and access support services.
The multifunctional center will offer vocational training in areas such as agro-processing, handicrafts, sewing, hairdressing, information technology, and entrepreneurship. Participants will also receive support in business management, marketing, accounting, and project development to help strengthen and formalize their income-generating activities.
The initiative responds to the needs of many women in the area who work in informal sectors, especially trade and agriculture. By improving access to training, financial services, and business networks, the center aims to reduce economic vulnerability and promote greater financial independence.
The facility will also help connect women with microfinance institutions, credit programmes, and other business support opportunities. Organizers say the project reflects a broader commitment to advancing women’s leadership and community development.
With the creation of this center, Aného joins other communities in Togo that have established similar facilities to support women’s empowerment. The initiative is expected to contribute to stronger local economies and greater opportunities for women across the region.
