Maryland Governor Wes Moore has announced nearly $7 million in funding through the state’s Build Our Future Grant Program, supporting 11 projects focused on innovation infrastructure development across key technology sectors.
The grants, administered by the Maryland Department of Commerce, are part of the Innovation Economy Infrastructure Act of 2023. The program provides funding to businesses, nonprofit organizations, local governments, and higher education institutions working in industries such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, clean energy, robotics, and life sciences.
The newly awarded projects include investments in sustainable fuels, medical device manufacturing, biotechnology laboratories, seafood processing, aerospace research, and artificial intelligence-powered healthcare technologies. Several recipients will use the funding to expand facilities, establish specialized laboratories, increase manufacturing capacity, and accelerate product development.
Major grant recipients include Intuitive Machines, Colonial Metals, Neurava, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore, each receiving $1 million to support infrastructure expansion and advanced technology initiatives.
The Build Our Future Grant Program is designed to strengthen Maryland’s innovation ecosystem while driving economic growth and job creation. State officials noted that many funded projects are located in communities with high concentrations of childhood poverty, aligning with the administration’s broader economic mobility and poverty reduction goals.
Since its launch, the program has awarded nearly $23 million to 32 recipients. Combined funding rounds from 2024 through 2026 are expected to generate approximately $75.5 million in private investment and create an estimated 828 new jobs statewide.
State leaders say continued investment in emerging technologies and advanced industries is essential to maintaining Maryland’s competitive position in the national innovation economy. Beginning July 1, 2026, administration of the Build Our Future Grant Program will transition to the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) under legislation included in the DECADE Act of 2026.
