The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced a new financing package of up to US$40 million (€34.6 million equivalent) for Credo Bank, reinforcing its commitment to supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across Georgia.
The funding will enable Credo Bank to increase the availability of medium-term financing for businesses throughout the country. By providing loans in Georgian lari, the initiative aims to address one of the key challenges faced by local enterprises: limited access to affordable financing in local currency.
A significant portion of the financing will be directed toward women-led and women-owned businesses. At least 45 percent of the loan proceeds will support female entrepreneurs, helping improve access to finance and promote greater economic inclusion. The investment will also expand lending opportunities in regional areas where businesses often face greater financial constraints.
As one of Georgia’s leading MSME-focused banks, Credo Bank has extensive experience serving underserved and rural communities. The new funding is expected to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of the MSME sector, supporting business growth, job creation and broader economic development.
The investment aligns with the EBRD’s strategy for Georgia, which focuses on strengthening the private sector, improving economic resilience and expanding access to opportunities. Since launching operations in Georgia in 1996, the EBRD has invested more than €5.79 billion across 318 projects, contributing significantly to the country’s sustainable economic development.
