The Government of Yukon has launched the new Yukon Conservation Fund, introducing a dedicated funding initiative designed to support wildlife conservation, habitat protection, and environmental stewardship projects across the territory. The government has committed an initial investment of $450,000 to help strengthen conservation efforts and encourage broader participation in protecting Yukon’s ecosystems.
The fund is intended to support projects that contribute to the conservation and sustainable management of wildlife and natural habitats. Eligible activities are expected to include environmental monitoring, habitat restoration, species protection, research, stewardship initiatives, and community-based conservation activities that align with Yukon’s broader environmental priorities.
The initiative also reflects Yukon’s ongoing commitment to biodiversity protection and long-term environmental sustainability. Government officials emphasized that the new fund is designed to encourage collaboration among Indigenous governments, conservation organizations, researchers, local communities, and other stakeholders involved in environmental protection and land stewardship.
The launch of the Yukon Conservation Fund builds on broader conservation work already underway in the territory through initiatives such as the Canada-Yukon Nature Agreement. These efforts aim to expand protected areas, strengthen Indigenous-led conservation, improve wildlife monitoring systems, and support climate adaptation and habitat protection strategies across Yukon.
Officials noted that conservation initiatives supported through the new fund are expected to contribute not only to environmental protection but also to scientific research, cultural preservation, and sustainable land-use planning. By supporting local and regional projects, the government hopes to strengthen long-term resilience of Yukon’s natural ecosystems while advancing collaborative conservation approaches.
