The South Australian Department of Human Services (DHS) has announced a new funding opportunity aimed at fostering greater disability inclusion across the state. Through the Julia Farr Disability Inclusion Grants program, eligible organizations can apply for grants of up to $100,000 to support projects that improve accessibility, participation, and inclusion for people living with disability. The initiative seeks to encourage innovative and community-driven solutions that create more inclusive environments and services.
The grant program offers two funding categories designed to support projects of different scales and durations. Organizations can apply for grants of up to $20,000 for projects running over 12 months, while larger initiatives lasting up to 24 months may receive funding of up to $100,000. The program is administered by DHS and funded through the Home for the Incurables Trust, continuing the long-standing legacy of supporting disability inclusion in South Australia.
The funding will support projects addressing several key areas related to disability inclusion. These include promoting active participation in communities, encouraging inclusive attitudes and behaviors, improving accessibility in physical and digital environments, enhancing communication and information access, and increasing opportunities for cultural and creative participation. The initiative also places emphasis on universal design and technology accessibility to ensure broader inclusion for people with disability.
Eligible applicants include South Australian organizations that provide local support services, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, local government bodies, community centers, and neighborhood houses. The government is encouraging creative and practical proposals that align with the state’s disability inclusion priorities and contribute to building fairer and more accessible communities.
Applications for the grants are currently open, with submissions closing on 22 June 2026. DHS is also hosting an online information session to guide interested applicants through the funding process and eligibility requirements. Officials have emphasized that the grants are intended to generate long-term positive outcomes for people with disability while strengthening community participation and social inclusion across South Australia.
