Canada Supports Black Entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan

Dated: March 27, 2026

Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) has announced $780,000 in funding for the Saskatoon Black Business Network Inc. (SBBN) to support Black entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan through a new Black entrepreneurship advancement program. Announced on March 26, 2026, in Saskatoon, the investment aims to address systemic barriers that Black entrepreneurs often face in accessing financing, mentorship, and business networks, which can limit their ability to launch and grow successful enterprises.

The funding will enable SBBN to deliver a range of support activities over the next five years, including the Black Business Expo, pitch competitions, mentorship programs, and networking events. These initiatives are designed to help Black-owned businesses showcase their products and services, connect with potential partners and customers, access growth resources, and build stronger professional networks. The Black Business Expo, in particular, serves as a platform to recognize outstanding Black entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan while promoting business visibility and community engagement.

In addition to the Expo, SBBN will host quarterly networking events each year in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, and North Battleford, along with virtual sessions to improve accessibility and participation across the province. The organization’s mentorship program is expected to support up to 60 mentees over five years, helping entrepreneurs strengthen their skills, scale their businesses, and access new markets. These activities are intended to create long-term support systems for Black business owners and foster a more connected and resilient entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The federal government said that investing in Black-led organizations such as SBBN helps strengthen local economies, expand opportunities for Black-owned businesses, and build a more inclusive Canadian economy. The support is being delivered through the Black Entrepreneurship Program, an initiative developed with the Black business community to tackle systemic barriers and improve access to resources for Black entrepreneurs across the Prairie provinces. The third annual Saskatoon Black Business Expo is scheduled to take place on March 28, 2026, and typically attracts more than 120 exhibitors and over 700 attendees.
