Apply Now: Internet Society Foundation Funding for IGFs and SIGs

Dated: February 11, 2026

The Internet Society Foundation has opened applications for its Internet Governance Forum Events Grant program, supporting recognized National and Regional Initiatives (NRIs) and Schools on Internet Governance (SIGs). The program aims to provide financial assistance for organizing these forums, which facilitate inclusive, multi-stakeholder dialogue on Internet governance. By enabling these discussions, the Foundation seeks to help communities contribute to a fair, secure, and sustainable digital future, reinforcing its broader mission to strengthen the Internet for everyone.

The IGF funding program is designed to promote open discussions on critical Internet issues, develop future leaders with policy expertise, and ensure meaningful outcomes from events. Funds can be used for event organization, hosting, and outreach to encourage diverse participation. By supporting NRIs and SIGs, the program contributes to the Foundation’s long-term strategic goal of universal connectivity and a safe, secure Internet. Jenn Beard, Senior Program Officer at the Internet Society Foundation, emphasized that the program ensures local and regional voices are heard and equipped to contribute to Internet governance decision-making.

Eligible organizations can request up to $25,000 in sponsorship, depending on the geographic scope of the event. Applicants must submit detailed budgets and follow reporting standards established by the Foundation and the IGF Secretariat. Priority is given to organizations directly involved in recognized NRIs or SIGs, particularly Internet Society Chapters. Proposals should be submitted at least 8–10 weeks before the event date, and early submission is encouraged as funding is typically allocated by the third quarter each year.

The program highlights the value of these initiatives in influencing digital policy, fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration, and promoting inclusion and accessibility for women, youth, people with disabilities, and marginalized groups. Interested applicants can submit proposals via the Foundation’s grant management platform, Fluxx, with first-time users required to register and provide two organizational contacts. Completing all requirements and submitting on time is essential, as incomplete or late applications are not considered.

By providing funding and support, the Internet Society Foundation empowers NRIs and SIGs to shape the future of Internet governance, helping communities build knowledge, influence policy, and ensure that the Internet remains open, inclusive, and secure.
