The World Food Prize Foundation, in partnership with America’s Cultivation Corridor, has launched applications for the 2026 Innovate for Impact Challenge, a global competition for AgTech startups offering a grand prize of USD $50,000. The competition seeks early-stage, technology-driven startups that provide solutions to strengthen global food security and promote sustainable agriculture. In 2025, the challenge attracted applicants from over 60 countries across six continents, highlighting the event’s global reach and relevance.
The competition narrows submissions to ten finalists, from which three are selected to present their innovations live at the Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue in Des Moines. There, a panel of judges evaluates their solutions to determine the overall winner. The Challenge aims to bridge the gap between promising early-stage ideas and the stakeholders, investors, and partners who can help scale them for wider impact.
Previous winners, such as Argentina-based APOLO Biotech, have demonstrated how the competition can accelerate growth and visibility. APOLO Biotech’s RNA-based technology addresses climate impacts on agriculture while reducing reliance on synthetic pesticides. The recognition and exposure gained through the Challenge have helped the startup connect with potential partners and expand its impact internationally.
Finalists gain significant exposure by presenting at the Borlaug Dialogue, which gathers over 1,500 agricultural leaders from more than 65 countries. This platform provides opportunities for networking with investors, industry experts, policymakers, and fellow entrepreneurs, fostering collaboration and potential partnerships that can help scale innovations worldwide.
Eligible applicants must be early-stage startups, from validated concepts to pre-Series A funding, with at least one full-time founder, and must demonstrate innovation, market potential, and alignment with sustainability goals. Submissions are evaluated based on novelty, industry demand, environmental and social impact, and potential for scalability across diverse contexts.
