The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Banca di Asti have signed a new €100 million agreement to support small and medium agribusinesses in Italy, focusing on the agriculture and bioeconomy sectors. This agreement, signed at the 11th Annual Conference on Financial Instruments of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) in Milan, marks the second collaboration between the two institutions following a similar €100 million operation in 2023, which benefited 285 agribusinesses, including 105 led by young entrepreneurs.
The credit line is part of a broader €3 billion package approved by the EIB for the agricultural sector, with special emphasis on businesses led by women and young entrepreneurs under 40. At least 10% of the new funding is reserved specifically for young farmers. The financing will support investments in sustainability, digital transition, and generational renewal, helping agribusinesses strengthen competitiveness, create jobs, and promote environmental sustainability.
Banca di Asti aims to consolidate its position as a key agricultural lender in northern Italy by providing tailored solutions and expertise to small and medium businesses in this strategic sector. The partnership reflects the EIB Group’s focus on innovation and resilience in agriculture, recognizing the sector’s crucial role in Italy’s economy and social development.
Gemma Feliciani, EIB Director of Operations with Financial Intermediaries, emphasized that the investment will boost the resilience and competitiveness of the agricultural sector while supporting community development. Enrico Berruti, Banca di Asti’s Head of Corporate Affairs, highlighted the bank’s commitment to the EU’s priorities of fostering innovation and strengthening the business environment through targeted financial support for agribusinesses.
