At the second meeting of the Steering Board of the Green Transition Portfolio in Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives from domestic authorities, the UN system, and international partners came together to review progress and chart the way forward. The meeting was co‑chaired by Arnhild Spence, UN Resident Coordinator in BiH, and Jelica Grujić from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, with participation from UN agencies such as UNDP, UNEP, FAO, ILO, UNECE, UNODC, and UN Women, alongside partners including Sweden, Switzerland, GIZ, and international financial institutions.
The Green Transition Portfolio is jointly led by national authorities and the UN system, focusing on four interconnected areas: decarbonisation, depollution, biodiversity and nature, and the circular economy. In 2025, progress was made in strengthening institutional coordination, creating new financing mechanisms, and expanding engagement with communities, academia, and the private sector.
Despite these achievements, challenges remain, including fragmented systems, uneven local engagement, and the slow pace of policy alignment and investment. Discussions emphasized the need to scale successful approaches, strengthen coordination across institutions, and mobilize additional financing to ensure that the green transition delivers tangible benefits for people, communities, and the economy.
The meeting reaffirmed that sustainable development in Bosnia and Herzegovina depends on strong partnerships and coordinated action. Institutions at all levels must lead the process, while international partners provide expertise, support, and financing to drive forward the country’s green transition.
