The British Embassy Manila and the UK Mission to ASEAN, together with the Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd), are strengthening their collaboration to promote equitable and evidence-based use of education technology (EdTech) in the Philippines. Supported by the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and implemented via EdTech Hub, the partnership aims to enhance foundational learning and build a more resilient and digitally enabled education system.
The initiative focuses on three key areas. First, it supports the development of the Philippines’ National EdTech Policy in collaboration with DepEd’s Bureau of Learning and Delivery. This includes piloting policy components and setting up monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure the policy is inclusive, responsive, and evidence-based. The work is funded through the ASEAN-UK Supporting the Advancement of Girls’ Education programme.
Second, the partnership involves a case study on climate and learning continuity, which examines how DepEd can improve alternative learning delivery methods in response to climate-related disruptions. This aims to strengthen the education system’s ability to maintain learning continuity during emergencies.
Third, the collaboration includes participation in EdTech Hub’s AI Observatory Ministry of Education AI Challenge, involving DepEd’s Education Centre of AI Research. This initiative supports experimentation with artificial intelligence to improve administrative efficiency and expand AI capacity within the education sector.
Leaders from the Philippines and the UK highlighted the importance of the partnership in advancing digital transformation in education, improving learning outcomes, and ensuring that technology is used effectively and inclusively. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening education systems across Southeast Asia and ensuring that all learners benefit from digital innovation.
