The European Commission has launched a €2.25 million call for proposals to support civil society organisations (CSOs) across Cyprus, with a particular focus on strengthening the Turkish Cypriot community and promoting inclusive civic engagement. This initiative continues the Commission’s long-standing commitment to supporting organisations that shape civil life on the island and foster cooperation between communities.
The funding call represents the tenth edition of the “Cypriot Civil Society in Action” programme, which aims to build a dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable civil society aligned with EU values. Since 2007, the European Commission has invested €19.78 million in Cyprus’ civil society sector, supporting more than 160 organisations in promoting dialogue, democratic participation, and cross-community collaboration.
The new call is structured into three funding streams designed to address different needs within the sector. The first focuses on strengthening civil society in the Turkish Cypriot community by supporting initiatives that encourage socio-economic development, participation in decision-making, and cooperation at both local and EU levels. The second stream supports bi-communal confidence-building actions that promote dialogue and joint activities between Cypriot communities to enhance trust and collaboration. The third stream is aimed at new applicants or organisations that have not recently received EU funding, helping broaden participation in EU-supported civil society initiatives.
Applicants are required to submit concept notes initially, as the call follows a restricted application process. The deadline for submissions is 16 June 2026 at 15:00 Brussels time (16:00 Cyprus time), marking an important opportunity for organisations to contribute to stronger civic engagement and cross-community cooperation across Cyprus.
