The Anti-Corruption Action Centre (AntAC), together with partner civil society organisations, has launched a new EU-funded initiative titled “Frontline for Justice: Civic Action to Safeguard Rule of Law and Institutional Integrity.” The project aims to strengthen oversight of justice sector reforms in Ukraine by monitoring legislation, protecting the independence of anti-corruption and judicial institutions, tracking the performance of law enforcement bodies, and ensuring transparency in key public appointments. It also combines legal analysis, advocacy, public communication, and cooperation with international partners to reinforce accountability and support Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership.
The launch event, held during the conference “Operation ‘European Integration’: Reforms in the Justice Sector,” brought together Ukrainian government representatives, EU diplomats, and civil society experts to discuss priority reforms required for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová reaffirmed the EU’s support for Ukraine’s reform process and emphasized the essential role of civil society in monitoring progress and ensuring accountability.
Speakers from Ukraine’s leadership highlighted the strategic importance of rule-of-law reforms amid ongoing conflict. They stressed that combating corruption and strengthening institutions is not only a governance priority but also a matter of national security. Officials also underlined the need for cooperation between government and civil society to ensure reforms are effectively implemented and sustained.
Discussions focused on ten key reform priorities under Ukraine’s EU accession framework, particularly in the areas of law enforcement, prosecutorial independence, and judicial reform. Participants emphasized safeguarding the independence of anti-corruption bodies such as NABU and the Bureau of Economic Security, ensuring transparent selection processes for top prosecutorial roles, and maintaining strong international involvement in judicial appointments to strengthen integrity and public trust.
The event concluded as a platform for coordinated dialogue between institutions and civil society, reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing justice sector reforms and keeping Ukraine’s European integration process on track.
