Since 2021, the Her Voice Fund (HVF) has provided flexible funding to women’s rights and feminist organisations across the Global South, supporting their efforts to advance gender equality and influence policy at local, national, regional, and international levels. With an intersectional approach, the fund has enabled activism on issues such as gender-based violence, disability rights, LBQ inclusion, climate justice, land rights, women’s political participation, and economic empowerment.
Launched in 2021, HVF has supported feminist organisations in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Uganda, and Zimbabwe through 98 grants across five funding cycles, amounting to £1,568,687. These resources have helped strengthen grassroots and regional advocacy, enabling organisations to operate in complex and evolving socio-political contexts while driving meaningful change on multiple rights-based issues.
Womankind is now launching a new evaluation titled “Resourcing Resistance: an evaluation of the Her Voice Fund’s impact on feminist advocacy (2021–2024),” which examines the fund’s first three cycles, geographic distribution of grants, and additional out-of-cycle funding. The assessment reflects Womankind’s broader commitment to supporting feminist movements in diverse and often challenging environments.
The evaluation finds that the Her Voice Fund has played a significant role in strengthening feminist advocacy by providing timely and flexible support. It also identifies areas for improvement to enhance the fund’s long-term sustainability and impact, offering recommendations to better support feminist movements in achieving equity and justice.
The report is based on insights from 80 respondents representing 37 grantee organisations across the five countries. Womankind expressed gratitude to the participating organisations and researchers involved in the study, acknowledging their contributions in sharing experiences, conducting field research, and synthesizing findings to support the evaluation process.
