The National Investment Bank (NIB) has made a landmark contribution of GH¢100,000 to the Ghana Support Fund, a government-backed initiative aimed at financing sports development across the country. The donation highlights the bank’s recognition of sports as a key driver of national development.
The cheque was presented by Esther Agyemang Prempeh, Acting Chief Client Experience and Corporate Communications Officer, on behalf of NIB’s management. The contribution was received by Dr. David Kofi Mawuvi Wuaku, Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, and Prof. Korye Anim-Wright, Chairperson of the Support Fund Board. Dr. Wuaku expressed gratitude to NIB, noting that it is the first institution to support the fund, and explained that the money would be used to promote athlete welfare, infrastructure development, and grassroots sports programs.
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie-Adams, welcomed the donation, highlighting that lack of funding has been the biggest obstacle facing Ghana’s sports sector. He noted that the contribution will enable the fund to begin its operations, ensuring that all resources are directed toward supporting sports development as intended.
The presentation ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ghana Sports Fund, and NIB, reflecting strong collaboration between government institutions and the private sector to strengthen sports in Ghana.
