In Lusaka, Zambia, on 1 December 2025, the GREEN Tech4CE Project, funded by the European Union’s Global Gateway, formalized contracts with selected companies under Calls for Proposals II, III, and IV. The agreements will support business solutions that leverage innovation and new technologies to strengthen local value chains, enhance industrial competitiveness, and promote sustainable use of natural resources.
Under the new contracts, ten enterprises received grants totaling EUR 3,447,645 to implement circular business models in sectors such as mining services, green workshops, recycling systems, waste-to-energy initiatives, waste management, and e-mobility. These investments are designed to advance technology adoption, improve processing, and add value, contributing to more resilient and competitive value chains. Six Business Development Service Providers were awarded EUR 843,428 to deliver incubation, acceleration, and technical assistance to 805 startups and micro and small enterprises, focusing on enterprise management, environmental performance, and investment readiness. Additionally, two Financial Service Providers were contracted for EUR 400,000 to develop tailored financial products, including green leasing, to expand access to capital for MSMEs and artisanal and small-scale mining operators engaged in sustainable practices.
The project also launched a new Lobito Corridor Call on 12 November, targeting medium-sized enterprises with potential in value addition, recycling, and technological innovation. A total of EUR 4 million is available under this matching grant facility, with submissions due by 19 December. Earlier programme achievements include two Copperbelt-based enterprises selected through the first call, which have completed contracting and begun operations with a combined EUR 1 million in matching grants.
The GREEN Tech4CE Project supports Zambia’s transition to a green, circular economy by empowering local enterprises, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable industrial practices. Implemented by a consortium led by Self Help Africa, alongside Tandem Circular Consulting, Prospero Ltd, and Imani Development International Ltd, the programme provides financial support to enterprises, business development service providers, and financial service providers. Targeting over 800 MSMEs and startups, the initiative aims to catalyze EUR 20 million in new investment, create jobs, and ensure meaningful participation of women and youth entrepreneurs.
