The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), alongside Integral Capital Group, PortfoLion Capital Partners and Carpathian Partners, has agreed to sell its stakes in Bulgarian technology company Graph wise to Oakley Capital.
Oakley Capital will acquire a majority stake in Graph wise and work with the company’s founders and management team to support its continued expansion. The transaction marks a successful exit for the EBRD following its investment in Onto-text in 2023.
Graph wise was created through the merger of Sofia-based Onto-text and Vienna-based Semantic Web Company. The company develops knowledge graph and semantic technologies that help businesses organize, connect and analyze complex data while supporting more effective artificial intelligence applications.
The EBRD supported the merger and integration of the two businesses and played an active role in strengthening Graph wise’s corporate governance through board-level representation.
Graph wise now serves more than 200 business customers globally and has established itself as a provider of software designed to help enterprises gain better insights from large volumes of complex information.
The transaction highlights the role of institutional investment in supporting technology companies through periods of growth, business integration and governance development. The EBRD said its successful exit also demonstrates how equity investment can help innovative companies scale and attract new investors.
Founded in Sofia in 2000, Onto-text was an early developer of knowledge graph technology, helping businesses manage and extract value from large datasets.
The EBRD remains a major institutional investor in Bulgaria. To date, the bank has invested almost €5.2 billion across 327 projects in the country through loans and equity investments.
