The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has expressed deep shock and sorrow following the death of Sudanese Red Crescent Society volunteer Ahmed Yaqoub Othman in North Kordofan, Sudan.
Ahmed Yaqoub Othman was killed on 10 June 2026 while providing first aid to injured civilians in the outskirts of El Obeid City after earlier attacks in the area. A dedicated volunteer with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society’s North Kordofan Branch, he was actively supporting humanitarian efforts and serving vulnerable communities when the incident occurred.
The IFRC extended its condolences to Ahmed’s family, friends, colleagues, and fellow volunteers, describing his death as a tragic reminder of the dangers faced by humanitarian workers operating in conflict-affected regions. The organization highlighted his commitment to helping those in need and his embodiment of the humanitarian values of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
In its statement, the IFRC emphasized that humanitarian personnel and volunteers must be able to carry out their life-saving work safely and without fear of violence. The organization reaffirmed the importance of protecting aid workers who provide essential support to communities affected by crises.
