The International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with Ibero-American partners, has strengthened its commitment to advancing the rights of young people through a renewed regional agenda focused on decent work, inclusion, and equal opportunities. The discussions emphasized the importance of placing youth at the centre of labour market policies, particularly in addressing persistent challenges such as unemployment, informality, and unequal access to skills development.
The initiative highlights that young people are key drivers of economic and social transformation but continue to face structural barriers in accessing quality jobs. Stakeholders stressed the need for coordinated efforts between governments, employers, workers’ organizations, and regional institutions to ensure that youth are not only beneficiaries of policy but active participants in decision-making processes that affect their future.
A strong focus was placed on improving access to education, technical and vocational training, and skills development aligned with labour market needs. The discussions underscored that investment in human capital, particularly in digital, green, and emerging sectors, is essential to preparing young people for the evolving world of work and reducing long-term inequalities.
The collaboration also reinforced the importance of social dialogue and regional cooperation in shaping inclusive labour policies. Partners highlighted that shared frameworks and joint initiatives can help strengthen labour institutions, promote youth entrepreneurship, and expand opportunities for decent and productive employment across Ibero-American countries.
Overall, the initiative reflects a broader commitment by the ILO and its regional partners to promote youth rights as a foundation for sustainable development. It reinforces the view that empowering young people through skills, participation, and decent work opportunities is essential for building more inclusive and resilient societies.
