NASSCOM Foundation, in collaboration with Ciena, has expanded its TechForChange initiative to further strengthen student-led innovation in India. The program is designed as a structured platform that enables college students to develop technology-based solutions for real-world social challenges, particularly in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and sustainability.
The initiative focuses on guiding students through a step-by-step innovation journey, beginning from ideation and moving toward prototyping and startup development. Participants receive mentorship from industry experts, hands-on technical training, and exposure to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and design thinking, helping them transform ideas into practical solutions.
Through the program, selected student teams are given opportunities to refine their concepts, build prototypes, and pitch their solutions. The most promising innovations receive further incubation support along with seed funding to help them scale into early-stage startups. This structured support system is aimed at reducing barriers that student innovators typically face in the early stages of entrepreneurship.
The initiative also emphasizes collaboration between academia and industry by involving universities, corporate mentors, and innovation ecosystems. This ecosystem approach ensures that students not only develop technical skills but also gain exposure to business development, product-market fit, and real-world implementation challenges.
Overall, the TechForChange program reflects a growing effort to build a strong pipeline of youth innovators in India by combining education, mentorship, and funding support. It aims to encourage student-driven solutions that contribute to broader social impact and align with sustainable development goals.
