On 20 April, the multi‑party initiative (MPI) for global health and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) was officially re‑launched in the Netherlands. The event at Nieuwspoort brought together Members of Parliament, civil society organizations, and experts to discuss the importance of strong Dutch leadership in these areas. New research was presented, highlighting the measurable impact of Dutch investments in global health and SRHR, marking a promising start for this collaborative effort.
The MPI is hosted by the Dutch Global Health Alliance and the SRHR platform, with broad political support from MPs across multiple parties. Co‑chairs Elles van Ark and Sarah Dobbe were joined by Suzanne Kröger, Ruud Verkuijlen, and Mpanzu Bamenga, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing health and rights globally. Additional parties are expected to join in the coming weeks, further strengthening the initiative’s political backing.
Research findings presented during the launch showed that Dutch investments between 2020 and 2024 saved more than 448,000 lives, treated 9.9 million infections, conducted 23 million tests, and immunized over 7.1 million children against life‑threatening diseases. These results demonstrate the significant global impact of Dutch engagement and provide a strong foundation for continuing this work effectively.
The launch event also served as a platform for dialogue on pressing challenges, including the growing anti‑rights movement. Upcoming roundtable discussions and parliamentary debates will build on the momentum of the launch, offering opportunities for MPs to bring global health and SRHR issues to the forefront of political discourse.
This re‑launch represents the beginning of renewed collaboration, with the MPI aiming to strengthen Dutch leadership and ensure that health and rights for all remain a collective responsibility.
