On 16 December 2025, at a North Atlantic Council meeting, NATO Allies agreed on the Alliance’s common-funded budgets for 2026, reflecting a continued upward trajectory in defence spending. Allies are increasingly investing not only in their national forces but also in collective capabilities, demonstrating both political commitment and practical value to the Alliance.
The Civil Budget for 2026 has been set at EUR 528.2 million, while the Military Budget is EUR 2.42 billion. These funds are designed to strengthen NATO’s overall readiness, capabilities, and operational effectiveness, ensuring that the Alliance remains robust and responsive in a rapidly evolving security environment.
The Military Budget will specifically support NATO’s military adaptation, enhance Allied interoperability, and contribute to crisis prevention and management, as well as cooperative security initiatives. It will also sustain the integrated NATO Command Structure, NATO-led training and exercises, ongoing Alliance Operations and Missions, and capacity-building support for partner nations.
The Civil Budget will continue to fund Allied consultations and decision-making processes and support the daily operations and activities of NATO Headquarters, reinforcing the Alliance’s collective political and strategic cohesion.
