Empowering Futures: SEWA Inspires Children to Pursue Higher Education

Dated: December 8, 2025

SEWA (Skill Education and Welfare Association) has been combating illiteracy in Amravati and Nagpur, Maharashtra, for decades, and its efforts have now expanded with a new initiative. The organisation’s women’s wing recently launched the “Ghar Ghar Dastak” campaign, aimed at inspiring youth to pursue higher education and build ambitious futures.

SEWA’s approach is highly localized and hands-on. Male members of the organisation visit neighbourhoods almost daily, forming teams to reach every home. Their work goes beyond offering advice; they meet individually with each child to understand their educational needs and aspirations. When a child or family requests financial assistance for further education, SEWA promptly identifies and supports them, ensuring aid reaches the most financially vulnerable.

The campaign is strongly supported by SEWA’s women’s wing, which runs the “Aala Talimi Bedari” (higher education awareness) initiative. Women members engage directly with mothers, highlighting the importance of education within families. In Pathanpura, Amravati, the Mahila Jamaat interacted with children from 10 families, motivating them to pursue higher education while providing SEWA’s four key guidelines to guide their educational journey.

Founded in 1989, SEWA has grown into a premier social organisation in India, impacting millions across the country over the past 35 years. Its collaboration model is self-sustaining, scalable, and entrepreneurial, effectively meeting local educational needs. SEWA’s network now covers 605 districts, 2,100 blocks, and 8,550 panchayats across 29 states and four union territories, operating over 2,000 centres and offices.

Since its inception, SEWA has guided more than one million students across India, aiming to make education accessible, create jobs, and improve living standards. Its remote learning programs provide flexible education opportunities, allowing individuals to enhance skills, explore new careers, or expand knowledge from any location, making SEWA a vital gateway to accessible and effective education.
