The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced a $150 million loan to PT Link Net Tbk (Linknet) to strengthen digital infrastructure in Indonesia and improve broadband quality across the country. The financing will support the expansion of Linknet’s fiber broadband services and enhance the company’s operational stability, enabling further investments in the fiber broadband market as it shifts toward a business-to-business model.
The initiative aims to expand Linknet’s nationwide fiber-to-the-home network, which delivers high-speed internet directly to households through fiber-optic cables. By advancing its open-access wholesale model, the project is expected to improve broadband quality, increase productivity, and support greater participation in the digital economy, particularly for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
Indonesia’s mobile broadband sector has grown rapidly since 2015, but fixed broadband services such as fiber networks still lag behind those of neighboring countries in terms of adoption, accessibility, and pricing. To address these gaps, the Indonesian government is developing policies to simplify permit processes and standardize fee structures in order to encourage competition and accelerate the development of fiber broadband infrastructure.
The investment will also contribute to Indonesia’s climate goals by promoting energy-efficient technologies and upgrading network infrastructure. By expanding reliable and high-speed internet access, the project aims to support inclusive digital development and unlock the country’s growing digital economy, which is projected to reach $366 billion by 2030.
Linknet, a leading broadband service provider in Indonesia and majority owned by Axiata Group Berhad, will implement the initiative with ADB’s support. Through this partnership, the project seeks to provide faster and more cost-efficient digital services while strengthening the foundations of Indonesia’s digital economy.
