Women in Canada continue to face barriers when accessing sexual and reproductive health services, including abortion care, fertility treatment, endometriosis support, and menopause management. Many individuals encounter challenges such as stigma, discrimination, and geographic isolation, particularly in rural communities. Ensuring equitable access to accurate information, safe services, and compassionate care is essential for enabling women to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
To address these gaps, the Government of Canada has announced more than $5.4 million in funding through the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund. The investment will support five national organizations working to reduce barriers and improve access to sexual and reproductive health services. These projects will focus on increasing awareness, developing educational resources, and strengthening support systems for women and other underserved groups who face difficulties in accessing appropriate care.
The funded initiatives will concentrate on key areas such as abortion services, fertility support, endometriosis care, and menopause and perimenopause management. Through research, community engagement, and knowledge sharing, the organizations will work to improve the quality of care and provide reliable information that helps individuals navigate available health services. The projects also aim to challenge stigma and promote inclusive and culturally sensitive approaches to care.
This investment forms part of the government’s broader effort to advance gender equality and strengthen public health systems. By improving access to essential sexual and reproductive health services and information, the initiative aims to support women’s participation in work, family, and community life while contributing to healthier communities and a stronger national economy.
