Canada Funds Agri-Food Projects in Montérégie

Dated: March 6, 2026

The Government of Canada has announced funding support to strengthen the growth of agri-food businesses in Quebec’s Montérégie region. Nathalie Provost, Member of Parliament for Châteauguay–Les Jardins-de-Napierville and Secretary of State (Nature), announced a total contribution of $1,649,000 on behalf of the Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED). The funding will support three regional businesses—Leahy Orchards, Logiag, and Une touche d’ail—helping them expand operations, improve productivity, and enhance competitiveness in the agri-food sector.

Leahy Orchards, an apple processing company established in Franklin in 1979, will receive $1.5 million in repayable funding to modernize its operations. The investment will enable the company to acquire digital equipment to improve its packaging process, reduce plastic use, and install new machinery including a bag filler, case wrapper, and palletizer. These upgrades are expected to increase efficiency and strengthen the company’s market competitiveness.

Logiag, a Châteauguay-based company specializing in sustainable agriculture advisory services and advanced soil and plant analysis technologies, will receive a non-repayable contribution of $99,000. The funding will support the company’s international marketing strategy for its patented LaserAg technology, covering marketing staff salaries, professional fees, prospecting visits, and travel costs aimed at expanding its global reach.

Une touche d’ail, a start-up founded in 2020 in Saint-Anicet and focused on garlic production and processing, will receive $50,000 in repayable funding. The support will help the company increase productivity by installing innovative production equipment such as a pneumatic peeling module, an extraction system, disinfecting ponds, and a drying tunnel. The company aims to contribute to Quebec’s food self-sufficiency and eventually meet garlic demand across Canada.

The Government of Canada highlighted that supporting small and medium-sized agri-food enterprises plays an important role in regional economic development. Investments in innovation and productivity help businesses diversify markets, strengthen competitiveness, and create positive economic impacts across communities in Quebec and Canada.

The funding has been provided through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program, which supports entrepreneurs and organizations that use innovation to grow their businesses and strengthen regional economies. Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions continues to play a key role in promoting sustainable and inclusive economic development across the province.
