The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Government of Italy, has launched the Youth4Climate Call for Solutions 2026, marking the fourth edition of this global initiative that supports young people in turning innovative climate ideas into practical solutions. The programme offers funding and learning opportunities for youth-led projects that aim to address climate challenges while generating real-world impact. Applications for the 2026 round are open until 30 April 2026.
Young people around the world are actively contributing to climate action, often linking environmental issues with broader concerns such as social justice, livelihoods, and human rights. However, despite individuals under the age of 30 representing nearly half of the global population, youth-led initiatives receive less than one percent of global climate funding. Many young innovators also face limited access to technical guidance, networks, and policy support needed to scale their solutions. The Youth4Climate initiative aims to address these challenges by providing direct financial support, technical assistance, and opportunities to connect with broader climate action networks.
Since its launch in 2023, the programme has already supported 150 youth-led climate projects across 59 countries, distributing a total of US$4 million through its first three funding rounds. Building on this progress, the 2026 edition seeks to further expand opportunities for youth innovators whose solutions are ready for implementation or scaling.
Under the 2026 call, selected applicants can receive up to $30,000 in funding to develop and implement their climate initiatives. In addition to financial support, awardees will gain access to capacity-building programmes, mentorship, and global networks designed to strengthen the long-term sustainability and impact of their projects.
The new funding round also expands its focus areas to reflect evolving global climate priorities. Projects are invited across themes such as sustainable energy, food and agriculture systems, climate and security, ocean and blue economy solutions, climate-resilient architecture, and sustainable fashion and textiles. These themes encourage innovative approaches that support climate mitigation, adaptation, and sustainable livelihoods.
To ensure broader global participation, applications for the 2026 Youth4Climate Call for Solutions can be submitted in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. The programme particularly encourages proposals led by young women and Indigenous youth organizations, including initiatives that strengthen land, water, and resource governance in Indigenous territories.
Through this initiative, UNDP and the Government of Italy aim to close the climate funding gap faced by young innovators and empower the next generation of leaders to implement scalable solutions that contribute to global climate goals and national climate commitments.
