Less than a year after being refreshed, New Zealand’s Active Investor Plus (AIP) visa has generated $3.39 billion in investment, reflecting strong international confidence in the country’s economic direction. Immigration Minister Erica Stanford announced that the updated visa settings are successfully attracting high-value global investors and aligning with the Government’s broader growth strategy. The figures represent a significant increase compared to the previous settings, under which only 116 applications were received over two-and-a-half years, resulting in around $70 million in committed investment.
Since the April 2025 refresh, 573 applications have been submitted, collectively amounting to $3.39 billion. Of this total, $1.05 billion has already been invested, while $2.34 billion is expected to be deployed within the next six months. The Growth Category has emerged as the most popular pathway, with most investments channeled through managed funds. This surge demonstrates a marked shift in investor interest and engagement under the revised framework.
The impact of the AIP investment is already being felt across multiple sectors of the New Zealand economy, including technology, healthcare, aged care, horticulture, digital media, cybersecurity, cloud technology, and regional infrastructure. During her visit to Hectre, an orchard-technology company benefiting from AIP funding, the Minister highlighted how international capital is helping innovative local firms scale operations, create high-skilled jobs, and expand export potential. The program is contributing to productivity gains and unlocking capital needed for businesses to grow sustainably.
Beyond financial contributions, investors are also bringing global expertise, professional networks, and international market access. According to the Minister, many of these investors have demonstrated a long-term commitment to New Zealand’s development, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a destination for innovation and partnership. The refreshed visa settings also allow investor visa holders to buy or build a residential property valued at NZ$5 million or more, encouraging deeper ties to the country.
Overall, the strengthened Active Investor Plus visa framework is positioning New Zealand as open for business, driving job creation, business expansion, and long-term economic resilience through increased foreign direct investment.
