Youth Empowerment Through Inspiring Stories and Real-Life Experiences

Dated: October 15, 2025

The Delegation of the European Union to the State of Qatar is presenting a series of masterclasses as part of the EU Youth Short Film Festival 2025, scheduled for 24–25 November. These sessions, led by internationally acclaimed filmmakers Jamillah van der Hulst and Conrad Alleblas of Netherlands-based JaJa Film Productions, focus on the theme “Films That Move You – The Art of Creating Stories with Impact.” The masterclasses will explore how cinema can spark empathy, raise awareness, and drive social change, emphasizing inclusive storytelling and the empowerment of women in filmmaking. Participants will gain insights into the entire filmmaking process, from creative development to case studies of globally impactful films.

The masterclasses will take place at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar on 24 November and at Northwestern University in Qatar on 25 November, reflecting strong academic partnerships that aim to connect students with European expertise, foster cultural exchange, and nurture the next generation of storytellers. The EU Ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Dr. Cristian Tudor, highlighted the importance of education and creative collaboration in enriching cultural dialogue.

The festival will conclude with two public evenings of film screenings on 24 and 25 November at Doha Sands Beach, showcasing a curated selection of short films from across the European Union and Qatar. This year, the festival has partnered with Al Mana Film Studios, Qatar’s first independent cinema studio, to support emerging Qatari talent and contribute to the local film segment. AbdulRahman Al Mana, CEO of Al Mana Film Studios, emphasized the significance of the festival in celebrating cultural dialogue and bridging stories from Qatar with international audiences.

The EU Youth Short Film Festival provides an opportunity for young creatives and the general public to engage with impactful cinematic storytelling, celebrate emerging talent, and experience cross-cultural exchange through the art of film.
