CARE, the humanitarian organization known for creating the original CARE PACKAGE, is inviting Atlanta residents to participate in a volunteer event focused on assembling CARE PACKAGE kits for families recovering from disasters across the United States. The event will take place on June 20 at LikeMinds ATL on Atlanta’s Beltline and aims to engage the local community in supporting disaster-affected households.
Volunteers will help pack essential hygiene and household supplies that are commonly needed by families impacted by hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and other emergencies. CARE plans to assemble approximately 2,000 kits during the event, which is open to the public and designed to encourage community participation in humanitarian efforts.
In addition to volunteer activities, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about CARE’s humanitarian work, participate in games and giveaways, and enjoy community activities. The event combines volunteer service with public engagement to raise awareness about disaster recovery needs and the importance of community support.
The initiative is part of CARE’s nationwide celebration of the 80th anniversary of the CARE PACKAGE, a globally recognized symbol of humanitarian assistance. Originally developed to provide food and essential supplies to families in post-war Europe, the CARE PACKAGE became an iconic aid program that has supported millions of people around the world over the past eight decades.
Through its current campaign, CARE aims to continue that legacy by mobilizing volunteers across the United States to assemble and distribute relief kits for disaster survivors. The organization has set an ambitious goal of packing and delivering up to 500,000 CARE PACKAGE kits by 2030, with the objective of reaching one million people nationwide.
CARE officials emphasize that each kit represents more than practical assistance. The initiative seeks to provide comfort, dignity, and hope to families facing difficult circumstances while strengthening community involvement in humanitarian action.
