Budapest — June 5, 2026 — The International Labour Organization (ILO) has completed a nationwide programme to reinforce the occupational safety and health (OSH) capacity of Albania’s State Labour Inspectorate, helping inspectors improve risk prevention and inspection practices in high-risk sectors such as construction and textiles.
The initiative, delivered under the UN Joint Project “Business Partnerships and Solutions for SDGs” funded by Sweden, combined classroom training with practical fieldwork across Korçë, Vlorë, Shkodër, and Durrës. All labour inspectors participated and received certification, marking a significant step in strengthening Albania’s labour inspection system and advancing its National OSH Strategy 2025–2030.
Training sessions focused on hazard identification, risk prevention, and workplace inspection techniques, using ILO Codes of Practice adopted in 2022. Inspectors engaged in case studies, group discussions, and workplace visits, applying their knowledge directly with employers and workers. The programme also promoted a preventive approach to OSH, encouraging stronger worker participation and inter-institutional cooperation.
Beyond technical skills, the initiative identified areas for further support, including developing thematic expert networks within the inspectorate, enhancing inspection methodologies, and improving national systems for reporting and analysing occupational accidents and diseases. Strengthening these areas will enable more effective, risk-based inspections and contribute to Albania’s sustainable development goals.
