The Government of Canada has launched a new funding opportunity to support accessibility and disability inclusion initiatives across the country, announced by Employment and Social Development Canada during National AccessAbility Week 2026.
Through the Accessible Canada Fund’s National AccessAbility Week stream, up to $3.6 million in funding will be made available over three years to support approximately 20 community-based projects. The initiative is designed to advance the goals of the Accessible Canada Act by reducing barriers and promoting inclusion for persons with disabilities.
The funding call encourages organizations to develop projects that highlight the contributions of people with disabilities, raise awareness about accessibility, reduce stigma, and promote inclusive practices in workplaces and communities. It also emphasizes sharing best practices and lessons learned to strengthen long-term accessibility efforts across Canada.
Officials stated that the program is part of a broader national commitment to building a barrier-free Canada where individuals with disabilities can fully participate and contribute to society. The initiative focuses on addressing physical, social, and attitudinal barriers that limit accessibility in everyday life.
Eligible organizations have until July 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. EDT to submit applications. Successful projects will support implementation of the Accessible Canada Act and help strengthen community engagement during National AccessAbility Week activities.
The funding announcement reflects Canada’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility standards and promote equal opportunities for persons with disabilities across all sectors of society.
