mHUB, one of the largest independent hardtech innovation centers in the United States, has launched a new Energy Tech Accelerator focused on advancing technologies at the compute–energy nexus. Supported by The Rockefeller Foundation and several industry partners, the accelerator aims to help startups commercialize solutions that address the growing energy and infrastructure demands created by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, data centers, and digital technologies.
The accelerator is being developed in partnership with organizations including Equinix Foundation, Generac, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Foundation, Marmon Holdings, and Salesforce. The initiative focuses on technologies that improve data center efficiency, strengthen grid and infrastructure resilience, and support more sustainable and reliable energy systems. Organizers emphasized that the rapid growth of AI and digital infrastructure is increasing electricity demand worldwide, creating urgent opportunities for innovation in energy management and efficiency.
Selected startups will receive investment funding, technical assistance, access to advanced prototyping facilities, mentorship, and connections to corporate and manufacturing networks. The accelerator plans to support between six and ten early-stage startups, providing both financial backing and operational support to help promising technologies move toward commercialization and market deployment.
The programme highlights increasing global concern over the energy demands associated with AI expansion and modern computing infrastructure. Industry leaders participating in the initiative noted that no single company can address these challenges alone and stressed the importance of cross-sector collaboration to develop scalable solutions for efficient energy use, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable digital growth.
The Rockefeller Foundation stated that supporting innovation at the compute–energy nexus is essential for advancing resilient infrastructure, improving efficiency, creating jobs, and supporting long-term sustainability goals. The initiative builds on earlier collaboration between mHUB and the Foundation, including funding support aimed at lowering barriers for hardtech entrepreneurs working in clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability-focused technologies.
The accelerator also reflects a broader trend toward increased investment in hardtech and energy transition technologies as governments, investors, and private sector organizations seek solutions for rising electricity consumption and climate-related challenges. Industry discussions increasingly focus on how energy systems, renewable technologies, and digital infrastructure can evolve together to support economic growth while reducing environmental impact.
