The Nordic Council of Ministers is inviting non-profit civil society organisations with ideas involving partners from multiple Nordic countries to apply for the Demos funding programme. The initiative aims to strengthen the voice of Nordic civil society and provide organisations with opportunities to influence society. Previous projects supported by Demos include research initiatives, travel grants, film festivals, and Pride conferences, demonstrating the programme’s wide scope and impact.
Demos is designed to promote collaboration among civil society stakeholders, helping them work together, exert influence, and amplify their collective voice. This year, the programme offers a record amount of funding, reflecting the growing importance of supporting civil society in today’s challenging times. According to Karen Ellemann, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, a strong civil society is essential for well-functioning democracies, particularly at a time when democratic values face increasing pressures.
Funding is available for projects and networks that enable collaboration, exchange, and joint initiatives across all areas of society. Eligible activities include workshops, conferences, meetings, staff exchanges, and the development of products, provided that partners from at least three Nordic countries are involved and the application is submitted by a non-profit organisation. Each project may receive up to EUR 50,000, to be used over a maximum of two years.
The first application window for 2026 is open from 12 February to 12 March, while a second window will run from 11 August to 11 September, giving organisations two opportunities to secure support for collaborative projects across the Nordic region.
