The European Union Delegation to Lao PDR, in collaboration with the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Laos, hosted the EU–Laos Business Talk & Networking event in Luang Prabang to mark the 50th anniversary of EU–Laos relations. The event was co-chaired by Mr. Mark Gallagher, EU Ambassador to Lao PDR, and Mr. Bounleua Sinxayvoravong, Vice Governor of Luang Prabang Province, bringing together government officials, business leaders, tourism experts, and development partners to discuss opportunities and challenges in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its natural beauty and spiritual heritage, provided the setting for discussions on attracting sustainable investment, enhancing service quality, and positioning the city as a leading tourism destination while safeguarding its cultural and environmental identity.
Speakers emphasized the importance of sustainable and inclusive tourism as a driver of green growth, job creation, and cultural preservation. The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Laos in developing a resilient tourism industry through initiatives that encourage eco-friendly business practices, responsible investment, and skills development, reflecting broader EU efforts to advance sustainable development and strengthen people-to-people connections.
The event concluded with a networking session, allowing participants to exchange experiences, explore business opportunities, and foster stronger partnerships between European and Lao businesses. The gathering highlighted the enduring cooperation and friendship between the EU and Laos, focusing on a greener, more sustainable, and people-centered future.
