The Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Centre (BHMAC) and the Civil Protection Administrations of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska have received a substantial delivery of uniforms and safety gear, enhancing the protection and efficiency of demining teams across the country. The European Union provided the equipment, valued at over €130,000, which includes waterproof jackets, work pants, polo shirts, and safety footwear designed to improve working conditions in challenging environments.
This donation is vital for ensuring the safety of demining personnel who continue to clear areas contaminated by landmines—approximately 1.6% of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s territory remains affected. Adequate protective equipment is essential for minimizing risks and supporting the life-saving work of deminers operating in hazardous conditions.
The donation forms part of the EU’s wider commitment to supporting mine action in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Earlier this year, the EU supplied 19 off-road vehicles to help transport demining teams and equipment to remote sites, as part of a €10 million EU-funded project that also covers demining operations.
Overall, the EU has contributed more than €50 million to mine clearance, survivor assistance, and capacity building initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These efforts, including the latest provision of safety equipment, significantly strengthen national demining capacities and contribute to safer communities.
EU support for mine action in Bosnia and Herzegovina extends beyond financial aid, encompassing training, mentoring, and close collaboration with EUFOR. This comprehensive approach ensures the sustainability and effectiveness of demining operations, advancing the country’s goal of becoming mine-free and improving safety for all citizens.
