Following a series of powerful tropical cyclones in recent weeks, the European Union has allocated €500,000 in humanitarian aid to support communities most affected in Northern and Central Vietnam. This assistance is being implemented through UNICEF, which will ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable populations and addresses urgent needs such as access to safe drinking water, water treatment equipment, and cleaning supplies.
To strengthen the response, the EU has also activated the Copernicus Emergency Management Service to produce satellite-based emergency maps, facilitating more effective delivery and coordination of humanitarian efforts. This support builds on the EU’s previous aid initiatives in Vietnam, including the €800,000 provided last year following the deadly cyclone Yagi.
The European Union and its Member States are among the world’s leading donors of humanitarian aid, offering assistance to save lives, prevent human suffering, and protect the dignity of populations affected by natural disasters and crises. Through its Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations department, the EU operates globally with field offices and headquarters in Brussels, delivering aid to millions of people in need based on humanitarian priorities.
