Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend the Global Gateway Forum in Brussels on 9–10 October 2025, an event gathering high-level representatives from EU Member States, partner countries, financial institutions, and the private sector. The forum highlights the European Global Gateway strategy, which aims to strengthen modern and secure links in digital, energy, and transport sectors while supporting health, education, and research systems in developing partner countries. The strategy seeks to mobilize up to €300 billion in investments between 2021 and 2027.
Hosted by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the forum this year will focus on building smart and sustainable connections and promoting global investments. Minister Tavio emphasized that the Global Gateway strategy integrates trade and development cooperation, supporting social and economic development in partner countries while involving private sector expertise. Finland aims to leverage the strategy to promote its technological and knowledge-based strengths internationally.
In line with Finland’s priorities, the country focuses on digitalization, education, and the clean energy transition within Global Gateway projects. At the forum, Minister Tavio will participate in high-level discussions on digital connectivity and meet with ministers and stakeholders from other countries to strengthen collaboration and explore opportunities for Finnish businesses.
Additionally, Minister Tavio will attend the Global Gateway Board meeting on 8 October. The Board, consisting of senior representatives from all EU Member States, provides guidance on implementing the Global Gateway strategy and coordinating investment efforts across sectors and regions.
