Around 1,000 people took to the streets of Bern on Saturday afternoon to demand climate justice, highlighting the deep social and ecological consequences of the climate crisis. Demonstrators emphasized that the current economic system exacerbates inequality through colonial and patriarchal structures and warned that natural disasters will displace millions of people worldwide. They stressed that the climate crisis is as much a social issue as an environmental one.
Organized under the banner Klimastreik Bern (Climate Strike Bern), the demonstrators argued that efforts should now focus on limiting the scale of the crisis rather than preventing it entirely. They urged people to remain engaged, critical, and committed to building a fairer, more just world. The event began at Waisenhausplatz around 4 p.m., where initial speeches were delivered before participants marched through the city.
Estimates of the crowd size varied, with a journalist from Keystone-SDA reporting approximately 1,000 participants, while the organisers claimed that around 2,500 people joined the march. The demonstration included notable figures such as Lisa Mazzone, president of the Green Party from Geneva.
