Canada has announced a new round of sanctions against Iran, with Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand confirming additional measures under the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations. The sanctions target five individuals and four entities linked to Iranian procurement networks involved in producing and supplying advanced technology that supports the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the Canadian government, these networks play a direct role in strengthening Iran’s weapons production and transfer capabilities.
The government said the sanctions are aimed at those connected to Iran’s transfer of arms, drones, and technology to destabilizing actors, including proxy groups in the region and Russia for use in its war against Ukraine. Canada stated that these activities contribute to armed conflict, threaten the sovereignty of other countries, and violate international norms. By targeting those who enable such operations, Ottawa says it is sending a clear message that it will impose consequences on actors involved in activities that undermine regional and global peace and security.
Canada emphasized that it will continue taking action to counter Iran’s destabilizing conduct, uphold international law, and support the Iranian people in their pursuit of freedom, dignity, and human rights. The latest sanctions are part of a broader pressure campaign that Canada has expanded over the past two years in response to Iran’s regional activities, domestic repression, and support for armed groups.
With these new measures, Canada has now sanctioned a total of 227 Iranian individuals and 260 Iranian entities. The country has also listed the IRGC as a terrorist organization under the Criminal Code, alongside groups such as the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah. In addition, Iran remains designated by Canada as a foreign state supporter of terrorism under the State Immunity Act, a status that was reaffirmed in December 2025. Canada had also previously declared senior Iranian government, security, and intelligence officials inadmissible to the country due to alleged involvement in terrorism and serious human rights violations.
