The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will host the 39th FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC39) in Brasília, Brazil, from 2 to 6 March 2026. The conference aims to define FAO’s work priorities for the next two years in the region, focusing on sustainable, resilient, and inclusive agrifood systems.
LARC39 will begin with the Senior Officers Meeting (SOM) on 2 March, bringing together technical representatives from Member States to examine strategic challenges and set regional orientations. Discussions will cover the impact of food price inflation on food security and nutrition, analyzing its drivers and the policy responses implemented by countries to advance progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
The SOM will also highlight the One Health approach, emphasizing the importance of integrated governance, surveillance, and biosecurity to address risks affecting animals, plants, and human health simultaneously. Additionally, the sustainable management of water and soils will be addressed as critical resources for food security, with strategies to strengthen agrifood system resilience in the face of climate variability and unsustainable practices.
FAO will present results from the 2024–2025 biennium, showcasing progress in agricultural innovation, climate resilience, healthy diets, rural development, sustainability, and regional partnerships that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
From 4 to 6 March, the ministerial segment will be inaugurated by high-level authorities from Brazil and FAO Director-General QU Dongyu. This segment will facilitate exchanges on challenges, progress, and lessons learned in eradicating hunger, reducing inequalities, and expanding investment in agriculture and food systems.
Ministerial roundtables will address strategies for agrifood systems transformation, reducing productivity gaps through science, innovation, and investment, and implementing sustainable agricultural and forest management policies for climate-resilient development.
The outcomes of LARC39 will guide FAO and Member States in shaping regional priorities and collaborative actions for the next biennium, strengthening sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food systems across Latin America and the Caribbean.
